Learn about comfort cooling with Grant UK’s Net Zero Heating Show

A new episode of Grant UK’s Podcast, the Net Zero Heating Show, is available which places the focus on comfort cooling with air source heat pumps. The episode can be listened to via the usual podcast platforms and it is also available to watch on Grant UK’s YouTube channel.

Following the hot temperatures experienced this summer, more attention is turning to how homes and buildings can be kept cool. In the latest episode of the Net Zero Heating Show – ‘Comfort cooling – can heat pumps cool you down?’ – Grant UK explores how air-to-water heat pumps can be used to lower room temperatures in the warmer months. Neil Sawers, Grant UK’s Commercial Technical Manager, hosts the episode and is joined by Glyn Hudson, Co-Founder of OpenEnergyMonitor, and Ricky Prescott, Director of Thoroughflush Ltd.

During the episode, Neil, Glyn and Ricky explain what comfort cooling is and how it differs from air conditioning. They discuss the pros and cons of comfort cooling and why it is important that installers do not simply enable the comfort cooling mode on a heat pump controller without factoring in the wider heating system. Glyn and Ricky also share their own experiences of enabling the comfort cooling mode on their Aerona 290 heat pumps which they have installed at their homes.

Neil Sawers said:

“Switching on comfort cooling without making the necessary adjustments elsewhere on a heat pump system is risky. It is why the mode is not enabled as standard on Grant heat pumps and our Aerona Smart Controller. However, you only have to look online to see how many installers and households are trying comfort cooling with their heat pumps and this was why we created this episode of the Net Zero Heating Show podcast. Glyn and Ricky share their insight about comfort cooling and together we discuss whether it has a place in the future of keeping homes comfortable.”
