Future electricians discover British manufacturing at Marshall-Tufflex

Marshall-Tufflex welcomed second-year T Level Electrical students from Salford City College to its Manchester Customer Experience Centre for a day of hands-on learning and industry insight.

The visit gave students the opportunity to step outside the classroom and experience products first-hand with the cable management manufacturer, while learning more about British manufacturing, product development and sustainability.

Students were introduced to some of Marshall-Tufflex’s core cable management products before getting hands-on with back boxes, mini trunking and conduit, putting their skills into practice on display boards.

Sustainability in action

Sustainability formed an important part of the visit. All PVC-U off-cuts created during the practical session were collected rather than thrown away and sent back to Marshall-Tufflex’s manufacturing site in Hastings. From there, the material will go to the company’s recycling partner to be processed for use in new products.

The activity gave students a clear example of circular thinking in practice, showing that sustainability is not only about the products selected for an installation, but also how materials and waste are managed afterwards.

Following lunch, the students explored the Manchester Customer Experience Centre with members of the Marshall-Tufflex team, discovering the company’s wider product range and gaining further insight into the people and careers behind the cable management industry.

Leon Hilton, Electrical Teacher at Salford City College, said:

“It’s fantastic for our students to get out of the classroom and gain real-world experience with a market-leading British manufacturer like Marshall-Tufflex. Being able to get hands-on with the products and put their skills into practice gives them a real taste of the industry and where their T Level could take them.”

The visit highlighted Marshall-Tufflex’s commitment to supporting the next generation of electrical professionals, while demonstrating how British manufacturing, practical skills and more responsible material use can work together.
