Eight electrical apprentices secure semi-final spots in Screwfix Trade Apprentice 2026 competition

Eight up-and-coming electrical apprentices from across the UK have been named as semi-finalists in this year’s Screwfix Trade Apprentice competition.

With a record-breaking number of entries received this year, Ashton Bull, Kallum Meadows, Gracie Donaghy, Kevin Crainey, Jaimie Lewis, Nathan Sheridan, Harley Mckenzie and Ruby-Renee Voss have beaten more than 3,000 applicants across the UK and Ireland to secure a place in the semi-final.

The eight are now in with a chance of claiming the coveted title and taking home an impressive £10,000 trade bundle made up of tools, tech and training.

The semi-final stage will see 37 aspiring apprentices face an interview to hopefully secure their place in the final, which will take place at Google HQ in April.

After securing a semi-final place, Ashton commented:

“I am delighted to have made it through to the semi-finals of Screwfix Trade Apprentice. To have been selected from a record number of applications is a huge achievement for me.”

Gracie Donaghy added:

“I love tackling different challenges every day. My apprenticeship has taught me problem-solving skills and determination when jobs have created challenges. One of my favourite parts of being an electrical apprentice is when I complete a job, and I can step back and see the real impact my work has had on my customers’ lives.”

Nathan Sheridan, who has also been busy setting up a business alongside studying, said:

“I have pushed myself a lot over the last two and a half years and recently set up a company to look after a few customers on top of my full-time apprenticeship. This has helped me grow my skillset massively.”

Ruby-Renee Voss added:

“I’m one of those people who is always trying to convince people to give trade apprenticeships a go because I love my job so much. I have multiple social media accounts to try and make other girls feel like they won’t be the odd one out, and that we can all do a trade, no matter what gender you are.”

Jack Wallace, Marketing Director at Screwfix, said:

“As a retailer to the trade, we are committed to championing tradespeople across the UK and Ireland. The 12th annual Screwfix Trade Apprentice competition is a national platform which recognises and celebrates apprentices, whilst also highlighting the crucial contribution they make to the industry.

“With apprentices so important to the future success of the industry, it is great to see that we have received a record number of entries this year. To make it through to the highly contested semi-final stage is a fantastic achievement, and I wish this year’s semi-finalists the very best of luck in making it to the final.”

The eight electrical semi-finalists are:

  • Ashton Bull, 19, is currently studying at JTL Ashford
  • Kallum Meadows, 18, is currently studying Level 3 Electrical Installation and Maintenance at JTL
  • Gracie Donaghy, 22, is currently studying Level 3 Electrical Installations at Weston College
