JTL officially opens new Teesside Training Centre
JTL has officially opened its new Teesside Training Centre in Thornaby-on-Tees, marking a significant investment in the future of electrical apprenticeship training and the region’s growing low-carbon economy.
The centre was formally opened by Councillor Lisa Evans, Leader of Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council and Tees Valley Combined Authority Cabinet Member for Education and Skills, alongside JTL Chief Executive, Chris Claydon, at a launch event attended by employers, industry partners and local stakeholders.
The new training facility will support electrical apprentices from across Teesside, the Tees Valley and the wider North East, helping employers develop the skilled workforce needed to deliver future housing, infrastructure and clean energy projects.
As part of the event, JTL hosted a roundtable discussion with local employers to explore how apprenticeship policy can better support skills development and ensure the region has the talent needed to meet growing demand in electrical installation and low-carbon technologies.
The investment comes as demand for qualified electricians continues to rise, driven by major regional projects and the UK’s transition to net zero. The Tees Valley Local Skills Improvement Plan identifies green energy, industrial decarbonisation and retrofit as priority sectors, highlighting the need for a strong pipeline of skilled professionals.

“It was a pleasure to officially open JTL’s new Teesside Training Centre and to see first-hand the opportunities it will create for apprentices, employers and the wider region.
“High-quality technical training is vital to ensuring people can access rewarding careers while supporting local businesses with the skilled workforce they need. Facilities like this have an important role to play in helping the Tees Valley deliver its ambitions for economic growth, infrastructure and the transition to cleaner energy.”

Now fully operational, the JTL Teesside Training Centre is working with employers and apprentices across the region, reinforcing JTL’s commitment to delivering high-quality apprenticeship training that meets the needs of industry today and in the future.
