Martindale’s online knowledge hub: helping keep electrical apprentices safe from day one

Keeping safe on site is a must for any apprentice working in or around electricity, so a solid knowledge and understanding of electrical safety is vital for those starting out in their trade careers.

Access to a wide range of helpful, practical resources from day one can support apprentices in building a strong understanding of electrical safety and encourage safer working practices as they progress through their careers.

Comprehensive resources to support apprentices

In the lead up to National Apprenticeship Week 2026 (Monday 9th to Sunday 15th February) industry leading safety experts in the field of test equipment, Martindale Electric, has one of the most comprehensive selections of free downloads, checklists and guides available. All resources are accessible in one place – on theMartindale website. Ideal for apprentices navigating their way through maintaining or installing electrical plant and equipment, they also help simplify compliance with Health & Safety recommendations for safe working practices.

Handy checklists: helpful tools to support safer working practices

Checklist downloads from the website offer easy-to-follow guidance on subjects such as Electrical Safety Compliance, Electrical Safety Audits and Formal Visual Inspections – ideal as a reference tool.

The Electrical Safety Compliance checklist helps ensure that the six key areas are not missed: equipment compliance; safety procedures; training and education; maintenance and inspection; documentation and reporting; and communication and culture.

Apprentices can use a simple audit as part of their training to develop awareness of electrical safety processes and how these are applied in the workplace.

The first step in any PAT/EET testing is a formal visual inspection. The Martindale Formal Visual Inspection checklist defines a structured, recorded check of an appliance, its plug and flexible cable.

Safety at work: established from day one

Safety and making safe measurements are a key focus for Martindale.

Managing Director Steve Dunning commented:

“Apprentices are the future of our industry and thankfully we see a lot of skilled and diligent individuals coming through, so it’s crucial that safe isolation and safety procedures are ingrained in working practices. Making this as straightforward and visible as possible is essential. It’s about getting into good habits, sooner rather than later.”

Memorable safe isolation procedures to reinforce safe practice

‘ALIVE’ and ‘STOP! are Martindale’s memorable safe isolation procedures to help reduce electricity-related injuries in the workplace. ALIVE spotlights the five vital steps that must always be included in a safe isolation procedure, while the STOP! campaign reminds anyone working on or near electricity not to take any chances with exposed metal parts and to always check first.

More information, useful documentation, posters and other items are available for download from the Safe Isolation Campaigns section of the website.

Resource centre for ongoing learning

The Martindale website also incorporates a resource hub where links to industry-wide information related to safety and electrical measurement can be easily found. These resources are designed to support individuals at every stage of their career, helping them reinforce safe working practices from day one and beyond.
